fellpool: (Sword in hand)

[Today, Leon is practically living in one of the battle dome rooms. How many times now had he put off actual combat practice? There had been a few distractions here and there, but he had to admit to himself that a good majority of the time was spent tinkering with symbols and gems in his lab.

When was the last time there had been a large draft? Four months ago? Was that the last time he had swung his sword around for any good reason for more than a few minutes? His lack of practice shows in his awkward test swings. Even with a practice simulation to fight, he's quickly tiring. Claude would probably laugh at the mistakes he was making.

Leon huffs and moves on to Symbology practice, switching from the Claude's Silvance to his own Heraldry blade. Even within the barrier and with the lower augmentation of his sword, he's able to quickly form ice needles and arc black sabers across the room. When he switches to one of his Symbology tomes, he increases his range and covers the walls in a thick layer of ice. And then shatters the ice with a decisive flick of one hand.

--

Later on, towards the mid-afternoon, Leon trudges over to the plaza to go looking for something to eat. First the bakery to check out the pastries for the day, then the coffee shop to order something cold, and then over to the grocery store to grab something for the inevitable midnight munchies.]

I think I could say the same about you. [He grins excitedly, more than a bit enthusiastic himself. Training with a scientific legend? Of course he'd be up for it.

If Sophia ever got to hear about this, she'd probably have a fit. Not for the first time, he wishes his childhood friend was here with him.]
You ready, or do you need more time to catch your breath?

Sure thing. [He makes his way over to the console, deciding already to go with someplace familiar even as he starts scrolling through settings he knows. Leon had said he wanted to see--] How about the Mosel Dunes?

At least with a simulation we don't have to deal with the heat, right?

No, it's a good ways off from Earth. [He shakes his head, working on inputting the data as Leon steps closer.]

It's the desert ruins I told you about before. They're on the second planet of the Elicoor system.

Yeah. According to maps, it's right on the edge of several countries. Sanmite to the west, Aquaria to the east, and the mountain region surrounding Airyglyph to the south. I heard once that the region was once used as a neutral territory for negotiations. [They hadn't been able to explore the desert fully. But that place had been a wasteland. He finishes inputting commands, the door opening as he turns to face Leon with a smile.]

After you.

Already guessed, huh? [He steps in after Leon, glancing around to see what the simulator had created.

It really was amazing what this thing could do. The harsh, dry desert stretched out before them, rocky outcroppings and distant oasis along with sparse bits of desert vegetation dotting the expanse far into the visible distance. Behind rested the Mosel Ruins themselves, Fayt having decided that the ruins themselves were a bit more interesting than the cave at the other end of this stretch of desert.

He figured as long as they didn't go to the center of the ruins, it was fine to include them as an option along with the desert itself. No telling what they'd find there, simulation or not. This thing had already proven itself to be eerily accurate, having data from Styx of all places.]

[It was odd, but Fayt couldn't find it in himself to be bothered by it. The Mosel dunes were harsh to stay out in long, normally. This? This was a nice change from the dangerous, dry heat of the real place.]

A peace negotiation, actually. The countries here were at war, but a truce became necessary. We were asked to escort the Queen of Aquaria here. [So maybe it wasn't the whole story, but Fayt didn't want to explain why the Vendeeni decided to show up. The reason the Vendeeni had even bothered the people of Elicoor to begin with was him, after all. He eyeballs the insect like monsters moving in the distance.]

There are tons of monsters, after all.

Well, like you said before. No need to take care of it if the countries aren't at peace, right? [There's just as much dry sarcasm in his tone as he shrugs. He didn't know all the history of the Continent of Gaitt. From what he did know though, the relationship between Airyglyph and Aquaria had long been a rocky one.] Technically this area might belong to Sanmite, but it's close enough to the borders the issue is muddled in a lot of politics, I think. You'd have to ask Nel for more details.

[Politics weren't his thing at all. Science, however, was.]

Couldn't say if Symbology had much to do with it, but it's definitely a possibility, knowing this place.

[Fayt hadn't thought he'd see a place like Elicoor either, over a year ago. Funny how things work out.]

Yeah, I did. [He nods towards the desert, sunblurred forms of monsters moving about in the distance as he places a hand on his sword.]

[Fayt looks surprised but pleased at the use of the support symbol, nodding before taking sight of one of the distant enemies and moving a bit closer with a wave to Leon to follow, drawing the veinslay as he does.

Once they're almost in range, he runs his hand down the blade, his fingers tracing symbols as he does. The metal frosts over in their wake and ice growing over the length of the blade.]
Ready?

Got it. [And with that, Fayt's darting towards the group of insect like monsters. He decides to make sure Leon's casting isn't interrupted by oncoming attack by slashing the closest one as he passes, drawing it's attention and drawing a deep gouge in it's side and one long pincer.]

[Fayt knows this particular spell well enough himself to know to get out of the way before it hits, knowing the ice could go flying in multiple directions on impact.

Seeing that the spell made short work of that particular insect, he wastes no time in switching focus to the next enemy, slicing off a grasping claw just as it scuttles close to attack.]
